    Default Frazier vs Daniels-January 15th 1972

On January 15th 1972 Joe Frazier defended his heavyweight title against Terry Daniels stopping Daniels in the 4th round. It was Joes first fight since defeating Ali the previous March. What makes the fight noteworthy is that it was held in New Orleans which was also the site of the SuperBowl that year. In fact SuperBowl VI was the following day and the Cowboys beat the Dolphins. It also marked the first time that a heavyweight title fight was held on a saturday night which today is common place. Traditionally fight nights for big fights were Mondays or Thursdays. Imagine a big fight in a SuperBowl city the night before the SuperBowl, doubt you could pull it off at the majority of the venues the SuperBowl has been held at recently but the SuperBowl will be in New York in the next couple of years(maybe next year) and if it's one city that would be able to handle it, it would be New York. Just a thought.

What makes that date, January 15, 1972, noteworthy it was the night another true champion ....went fifteen rounds in a small hotel in lower Manhatten after being married earlier in the evening in Queens New York...his ring name? Ringo...lol
