Those stats are different when you combine the IBF, WBO, and WBA.
Just a quick observation. It's quite striking that the U.S. has had few 122 lb champs over the last 10-15 years. And the list isn't exactly anything to write home about. Willie Jorrin, Bones Adams, Rico Ramos.
Mexico, on the other hand, has clearly produced the better 122 lber champs/titlists in the past 15 years (Israel Vasquez, Rafael Marquez, Daniel Zaragoza, Erik Morales, Marco Antonio Barrera, Oscar Larios, Abner Mares, Enrique Sanchez, Nestor Garza, Daniel Ponce De Leon, Jorge Arce).

Regarding this weekend's bouts, I like Donaire via close decision over Nishioka. Nishioka is past it but he's much better than little tiny Omar Narvaez and Wilfredo Vasquez Jr. I expect Donaire to be tested a bit.
Rios/Alvarado has war written all over it. No result would surprise me in that one. However, I'm leaning towards Rios via late corner stoppage.

I hope Nishioka beats Donaire cause I know he's gonna duck the Mares/Moreno winner and Rigondeaux.
I'm leaning toward Alvarado by upset but I want to see how Bam Bam looks at the weigh ins.

Im going for donaire to win by a close UD and i think alvarado will upset rios via a wide UD, rios looked bad in his last fight and alvarado will hurt him if he just keeps moving forward on him with his shit defence.

Man that was a great fight. Rios is lucky he was blessed with such a good chin because his defense is absolute shit. Fun fight although I knew Alvarado was in trouble when he got hurt late in the previous round.

That was a great fight! I give all due credit to Rios for taking on Alvarado as his first fight at 140 cause he was a warrior. I think Valdosta said it best, Rios is very lucky he is blessed with that chin cause it was obvious the new weight class will be a little tougher for him. Rios was smart enough to make the adjustments and that was due to him having a better corner, more experience on the big stage and versus tougher opponents. Maybe Mike can rebound and earn himself a rematch.

I still think the Rios-Alvarado stoppage was a bit premature, but upon watching it again, it wasn't a terrible stoppage. Alvarado wasn't gonna whether the storm. The guy has no defense, and doesn't clinch. Plus, Rios knows how to finish a guy off once he has him going. If the fight had gone on, I'd fairly certain Alvarado would have been on his back.
