Martinez dumps WBC belt, may leave HBO for Showtime | RingTV
Martinez is upset with the WBC not enforcing the bout with Chavez Jr.
Now he's considering moving to Showtime in hopes of possibly landing a future bout with Ward at 168.
Can't say I blame him for dumping the WBC Diamond belt.

Ward will outbox the older Da Sex at the heavier weight...168 seems a bit much for Martinez...that will considerably slow him down...and it might even diminish his power.

Up, up, and awaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!

That's very likely, but you still have to give Martinez props for even considering that fight.

Don't get me wrong, I love Martinez...the man is awesome...and yes...mad props to him for trying...and you never know...it's not he's a bum or anything...the dude is quick enough...and can bang...but he should have a tune up or two at 168...to see how that speed and powers carries at that weight.

Up, up, and awaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!

He should fight froch or kessler first then depending on the outcome take on the winner of ward vs bute, if those 2 dont fight then he should take on ward coz bute wont wana fight outside of canada and the judges will always favour him.

Martinez gave the WBC exactly what it wanted.

Yeah, but no one outside of Mexico will respect Chavez jr now. I hope he gets KOd by Rubio, but even if hes champ for a long time, he will never get my respect unless he fights Maravilla. Martinez can fight for other titles, and he will still be recognized as the top middleweight, while JRs popularity goes down the toilet.

I haven't had time to look into it, I've been swamped the last few days. Wasn't Chavez going to fight Martinez AFTER his fight with Rubio in February? And after Martinez' fight with Macklin with the winners fighting each other? If I heard wrong, then you're right, Chavez is a pussy. But if Martinez wasn't willing to fight Macklin and then fight Chavez, and Chavez was going to fight Martinez after his fight with Rubio, then its not so black and white.

Can't have anything but respect for a fighter that will dump a belt on principle like that.

Joke of a belt in the 1st place. Don't blame him binning it.

I was looking forward to Chavez v. Rubio, MArtinez v. Macklin, and the winner facing each other. That is what I read was going to happen. That would have been a great. 4 top middleweights facing each other.

That is what Chavez Jr. camp & WBC Sulaiman planned AFTER both CHANGED THE ORIGINAL RULING MADE PUBLIC BY THE WBC TWO WEEKS EARLIER!!! In that ruling Jose Sulaiman ORDERED that Chavez Jr. next fight should be against Martinez or he (Jr)would have been forced to relinquish his title. The 100% about face from both Sulaiman & Chavez is a slap in the face to Martinez who has been patiently waiting to fight Chavez Jr. for quite some time. The WBC has lost a lot of credibility with this bitch move and Chavez Jr in the words of Martinez is "a coward". Why make the Chavez Jr. vs Rubio first? Heck fight Martinez first and Rubio can be the mandatory challenger to the winner! Why leave the REAL TRUE RECOGNIZED DIAMOND & RING MAGAZINE CHAMPION out waiting, again, for Chavez The Coward to later cancel it claiming an imaginary injury and later needing another tune-up?

That resolution they issued at their convention couldn't have been more worthless, I don't know why the WBC even bothered issuing it as you knew that when push came to shove, they'd never make Chavez face Martinez. Hell, I'm stunned they're having him face Rubio, I figured on someone like 41-year-old William Joppy, if that
Let's face it, nothing is EVER going to be expected from this Kid, Jose and Boys will give him the title right back if he ever loses it.

Exactly.
This is pure out and out protectionism of young Chavez. THIS is exactly why casual fans leave boxing in droves...the best hardly ever meet at the top of their game.
Shame.Q. What is the difference between an Irish wake and an Irish wedding?
A. One less drunk.

Shit, Im not a casual fan and Im thinking of giving up on boxing. Mainly because of people like Arum and Sulaiman. They suck, Don King might have been a thief but he gave us many, many great fights. Hed match his fighters with anyone, none of that I ONLY match my champion against top rank fighters.
Or the I will strip the real champions, so my mexican protected money makers can win titles and make me even more money. Or Ill match the #1 ranked fighter vs some unranked, bum from England.Colombian or Puerto Rican women? YUUUUUKKKK I liked bubba better.

I hate to disturb all the lamenting and anger around here, but I am looking forward to Chavez v. Rubio! That should be a good fight. After seeing Rubio destroy Lemiuex and Vanda, he can be a test for Chavez and is a dangerous opponent.
AFTER Chavez beats him, assuming he wins, I want Chavez to make an effort to fight Martinez, even calling him out if necessary. I think at this point, he needs to do that or he looks like a big pussy. I don't have a problem with him fighting Veneno and THEN Martinez. Those are two excellent opponents back to back. But if he only fights Rubio and then fights some sorry ass guy, he's just not cutting it.
So I haven't given up yet. If he handles Rubio, then its time for him to try to make the match with Martinez.
