TOWER HEIST
SCORE - 4.5/10
GENRE - COMEDY/CRIME
PREMISE - Josh Kovacs (B. Stiller) is the manager of an expensive high rise apartment building. Unbeknownst to his employees, Kovacs had the employee pension fund handled by one of the wealthy wall street residents named Arthur Shaw (Alan Alda). When Shaw gets arrested for financial fraud and declares bankruptcy, Kovacs confronts him and gets fired over it. Later he teams up with a couple of employees and a recent evictee to try and rob Shaw of the money they think he's hiding in his apartment. Having no experience in crime Kovacs recruits local hood and life long neighbor, Slide (E. Murphy) into the crew.
CRITIQUE - Best I can say about this movie is it was decent. The dialogue and most of the acting was okay, and the story wasn't bad. The problem was that for a comedy this movie just wasn't funny. Murphy didn't help, as he was flat out terrible. It wasn't his comedy, but the fact that he seemed to be really over acting with his character. The loud tone of the "shoot your face off your face" line from the trailer is pretty much how he delivered all his lines. Sometimes I wonder if he can't stop being Donkey from Shrek. Another bad thing about this movie is you were hoping the crime element would be clever in an Oceans 13 kind of way. It wasn't. It was really basic and ordinary, kind of like this film.
Recommendation - If you're like me and take your time seriously then I suggest skipping this one altogether. Trust me you really aren't missing anything.
